ABB’s latest fully-SiC power stack slashes losses so dramatically that efficiency peaks at 99.1 %, allowing the drive to pay back its own cost in energy savings within three years in high-duty-cycle applications. The P974 firmware hosts “fleet orchestration,” enabling up to 32 drives to exchange load forecasts via MQTT, automatically scheduling starts to minimise peak demand charges. A patented magnetic-field immune current sensor eliminates dc-drift errors, ensuring 0.1 % torque accuracy even in steel-mill magnetic fields exceeding 10 mT. An integrated fire-suppression interface triggers inert-gas flooding without external relays, cutting response to < 200 ms. The entire power stage slides forward on rails, allowing replacement in under 30 minutes during a planned outage.
