Pepperl+Fuchs KFD2-ELD-Ex16 Ground Fault Detections and Interface Modules
Description
The KFD2-ELD-Ex16 is a highly sophisticated Ground Fault Detection (GFD) module designed for intrinsic safety applications in hazardous environments. It is engineered to continuously monitor isolated intrinsically safe circuits and detect ground faults by measuring the resistance to ground. This device is ideal for applications requiring reliable and precise monitoring of electrical circuits in hazardous areas, such as Industrial Automation and process control systems. With its robust design and advanced features, the KFD2-ELD-Ex16 ensures the safety and integrity of electrical systems in demanding environments.
Features
The KFD2-ELD-Ex16 boasts several key features that enhance its functionality and reliability. It supports a 24V DC supply (Power Rail) and features 16 channels for monitoring, each continuously assessing the resistance to ground. The device is designed to trigger an alarm when the resistance falls below 10 kΩ, providing early warning of potential faults. During an alarm condition, the appropriate channel LED is illuminated, and a form C changeover relay contact is initiated. The KFD2-ELD-Ex16 also includes a self-test feature, allowing manual or remote initiation of a test that mimics a real alarm condition, ensuring the reliability of the system. Additionally, it offers a unique collective error messaging feature when used with the Power Rail system.
Function
The primary function of the KFD2-ELD-Ex16 is to detect ground faults in hazardous area circuits and provide immediate notification of any issues. It achieves this by continuously monitoring the resistance to ground across all 16 channels. When a ground fault is detected, the device triggers a relay output and illuminates the corresponding LED, alerting operators to the fault. The self-test feature ensures that the system is operational and reliable, providing confidence in its ability to detect and respond to faults. The KFD2-ELD-Ex16 is particularly useful in applications where the integrity of electrical circuits is critical, such as in chemical plants, oil refineries, and other industrial settings. Its ability to operate within an ambient temperature range of -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F) makes it suitable for a wide range of environmental conditions.
