The ABB AC 800M series is a versatile and reliable family of controllers designed for Industrial Automation applications. The AC 800M offers scalable, cost-effective design with fault tolerance for maximum plant availability. Its open architecture reduces lifecycle costs and integrates with supervisory systems and intelligent devices. The AC 800M supports both process and power automation and safety within a common environment, making it suitable for a wide range of industries such as oil, gas, chemicals, power, and manufacturing. Each CPU module is equipped with two Ethernet ports for communication with other controllers and for interaction with operators, engineers, managers, and higher-level applications. A Flash memory card can be inserted into a slot in the CPU module to store the application and data. The connectivity and expansion options make the AC 800M exceptionally open and scalable. It can easily connect to the surrounding world of supervisory systems and intelligent devices of all kinds and adapt to changing requirements as the process it controls changes or expands.

The processors in the AC 800M series play a crucial role in the overall functionality of the system. The PM860 is a key processor unit, featuring an Intel® Pentium® M 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. It has 512 MB DRAM, expandable to 2 GB, and 128 MB Flash memory. The I/O capacity supports up to 12 CI8xx series I/O modules with a total point number ≤ 4096. The communication interfaces include 2 × 100/1000 Mbps Ethernet, 1 × RS-232/485, and 1 × CompactFlash card slot. It supports hot standby redundancy when paired with PM861/PM864 units. The PM864A is another important processor unit, equipped with a 96 MHz CPU and 32 MB memory. It has two RJ45 Ethernet ports and two RS-232C serial ports. The processor unit can be used in non-redundant configuration for cost-effective applications. PM864A is ideal for applications requiring high processing power and memory. PM866 is a high-end processor unit with a 300 MHz industrial processor, 128 MB RAM, and 64 MB flash memory.
