ABB’s hybrid SiC-Si IGBT modules cut conduction losses by 30 %, enabling 99 % regenerative efficiency without liquid cooling. The drive’s active supply unit automatically adapts to 50 Hz or 60 Hz grids and even tolerates ±10 % frequency drift from shipboard diesel generators. A built-in arc-energy calculator displays real-time incident energy on the HMI, allowing operators to select the correct PPE before opening doors. The unit ships with a pre-installed “crane macro” that handles anti-sway, slack-rope detection and synchronized multi-motor hoisting straight out of the box.
