Description

The KFD2-SR2-Ex2.W is a high-performance 2-channel isolated barrier designed for intrinsic safety applications in industrial environments. It facilitates the secure transfer of digital signals from NAMUR sensors or mechanical contacts located in hazardous areas to safe areas. This model is powered by a 24 V DC supply and is equipped with form C changeover relay contacts for the safe area load. The device is constructed with a polycarbonate housing, ensuring durability and resistance to environmental stresses such as dust and moisture. Its protection degree of IP20 makes it suitable for indoor use in controlled environments. The KFD2-SR2-Ex2.W is designed to be mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail, adhering to EN 60715 standards, which simplifies installation and integration into existing infrastructure.

Features

The KFD2-SR2-Ex2.W features a removable terminal block with an integrated self-opening device, simplifying installation and wiring processes. The device operates within a temperature range of -20°C to 60°C, making it suitable for diverse environmental conditions. With a rated voltage of 20 to 30 V DC and a power consumption of < 1.3 W, the KFD2-SR2-Ex2.W ensures energy efficiency. The device also supports line fault detection, which can be enabled or disabled via switch S3, enhancing operational safety and reliability. Additionally, it includes a unique collective error messaging feature when used with the Power Rail system, providing immediate notification of errors and enhancing system reliability. The switching point of the device is designed to operate within a range of 1.2 to 2.1 mA, with a switching hysteresis of approximately 0.2 mA, ensuring precise and reliable signal transmission.

Function

The primary function of the KFD2-SR2-Ex2.W is to transfer digital signals from hazardous areas to safe areas while maintaining galvanic isolation between the two. This ensures that any noise, potential differences, or transients from the hazardous area do not affect the safe area control circuits. The device uses a zener barrier in combination with a galvanic isolation network to limit the energy transmitted to the field, thereby ensuring intrinsic safety. In the event of a fault in the field circuit, the relays revert to their de-energized state, and the LEDs on the device indicate the fault according to NAMUR NE44 standards. This feature ensures quick identification and resolution of issues, minimizing downtime. The KFD2-SR2-Ex2.W also supports a pulse/pause ratio of ≥ 20 ms/≥ 20 ms, making it suitable for applications requiring precise timing and control. The device’s ability to operate in Zone 2/Division 2 areas makes it suitable for applications in oil and gas refineries, chemical plants, and other hazardous environments where safety and reliability are paramount.
